On Wednesday, a Trump-hating Bernie Sanders supporter opened fire on a group of GOP congressmen as they prepared for a charity baseball game. The shooter managed to critically injure five people, including Representative Steve Scalise and Tyson Foods lobbyist Matt Mika.
Now, Mika’s family has released an update about his condition.
“While we know there will be difficult and challenging days ahead for Matt and our family, the physicians and specialists at Matt’s side expect a full recovery,” the statement said, according to Conservative Fighters.
Though Mika’s injuries were severe, his family said he has been responsive.
“He continues to communicate with us through notes, and even signed the game ball for the Congressional Baseball Game,” their statement said. “Matt especially valued the professionalism of the officers of the Capitol Police, and would appreciate contributions to the Capitol Police Memorial Fund, one of the designated charities at Thursday night’s ball game.”
The family added that Mika will remain in intensive care at least through the end of the weekend. They also praised the team at George Washington University Hospital for the care they have given Mika and said they are “grateful beyond words for the heroic actions” of the two officers, who have been widely hailed for preventing further bloodshed.
Please keep Matt Mika in your thoughts and prayers!
