Barack Obama has often railed against the wealthy during his presidency pandering to his supporters about the evils of the rich 1 percent. Ironically, however, the former president and his wife, have in the last several months vacationed in a 22 bedroom villa in Italy, stayed at Marlon Brando’s French Polynesian hideaway, vacationed with billionaire Sir Richard Branson on his super yacht and have spent time with wealthy elites like Oprah Winfrey and Bruce Springsteen. The Obamas continue to live in the lap of luxury but with no self-awareness, the $8.1 million home they just purchased is probably considered “modest” in their eyes.
Forbes reported that the Obamas just bought the Tudor-style home that boasts 9 bedrooms and 8.5 bathrooms. The home was previously owned by Joe Lockhart, who served as press secretary under Bill Clinton and is the current executive vice president of communications for the NFL.
The 8,200-square-foot home also has light hardwood floors and neutral gray walls. It includes a reading room, state-of-the-art kitchen, elaborate doorways, crown moldings and coffered ceilings.
Amusingly, the Obamas are neighbors with Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner, who also live in the ritzy Kalorama neighborhood.
The Obamas are paying for their new home by cashing in on book deals and traveling the country on a paid speaking circuit, which garners them as much as $200,000 a speech. The six figure annual pension Obama is given also ensures that the former first couple will be living the high life for quite some time.
