The city of Chicago, Illinois has some of the strictest gun laws in all of the nation. However, these laws have done nothing to lower the staggering gun crime rate there.
The ineffectiveness of these gun control laws was proven once again over the weekend, when ten people were killed and 41 were injured in shootings across Chicago. Fox 32 Chicago reported that one of the deceased victims was 9 year-old Gustavo Garcia.
The little boy was traveling in an SUV in the East Side neighborhood on the Far South Side at around 11:13pm on Friday with a 31 year-old man. Suddenly, a gray car pulled up next to them and someone inside opened fire. Gustavo was shot in the back and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The most recent fatal shooting that has been reported happened about 3:20 a.m. Sunday in the South Shore neighborhood. A 23-year-old man was sitting in a parked vehicle when two men approached him and shot him in the chest and right arm. He was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he passed away of his injuries.
Willie Cooper, 58, was killed at around 4:15pm on Saturday during a shooting in Princeton Park on the Far South Side. Cooper was standing outside when a vehicle pulled up next to him and opened fire. He was shot in the mouth and torso and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crime.
This is just a small taste of the rampant gun violence Chicago experiences every day despite their strict gun laws. Clearly, stricter gun control laws are not the answer to lowering gun crime rates!
